Sleaze, Suckage, SEO … and Savings

Someone must have slipped the team some hot sauce, because it seems we’re all feeling a little spicy. This week features strong points of view and plain-spoken advice.

Ever feel a little shy telling people you're a marketer? Do you worry that what you do seems sleazy to some? While marketers aren't quite at “politician” level of public loathing, a lot of folks misunderstand what ethical marketing is about.

On Monday, Stefanie Flaxman shared five examples of marketing that's helpful, not creepy or sleazy.

On Tuesday, Brian Gardner gave us a preview of our annual great-big festival of savings -- in other words, our Black Friday promotion for StudioPress. You won't even have to wait until U.S. Thanksgiving (or be in the U.S., for that matter) to get your discount.

And on Wednesday, I highlighted a trend I'm seeing in the web's most powerful content writers. It's a potent combination that you can introduce into your own content, whether you're promoting your own business, doing client work, or creating content as part of a marketing team.

Over on The Digital Entrepreneur podcast, Sean Jackson interviewed three women (I was one) for a lively panel called “Does Digital Marketing Suck for Women?” Spoiler alert: the answers are a mix.

On Copyblogger FM, I talked about five general principles to keep yourself out of SEO-induced stress disorder. Because making yourself bananas trying to keep Google happy just isn't any fun.

And speaking of SEO, on the Sites podcast, Sean joined Jerod Morris to discuss some optimization tips, including how to optimize your content for voice search.

That’s what’s new on Copyblogger this week -- hope you enjoy, and have a terrific weekend.
