Use Uniqueness In SearchThere's an old marketing quote that I often come back to. It's so short that, if you're not careful, you'll miss how important it is: "Different is better than better." The idea is that being better than your competition is often impossible and, even when it is possible, uniqueness often persuades more. My partner saw this in action while doing research for a vacation. Take a look: When people write meta titles, they usually only think about the keywords they're targeting. This example shows you that you can flex your copywriting skills a bit too. Every result of "things to do in Naples" looked the same except the one from Time Out, which tacked on "A local's guide." That uniqueness got him to click. Whatever kind of marketing you're doing, try to be a bit different. It works. 2. The Most Basic Content ChecklistI've been creating content for almost 15 years. There are two types that get you social media engagement and search clicks. This is gonna sound basic, but it's important, and most people don't think about them enough. Those people tend to get almost no results with their content. The first type is applicable value: tips, how-to guides, how-I guides, listicles, etc. The second is emotion creators: motivation, recognition, inspiration, etc. People will respond to your content if it's one of those. Before you start writing, ask yourself if it'll be one of those. If it isn't, pick a new idea. 3. Content PresentationYou could write a listicle, then post it as a long text post, a text-based photo carousel, or an infographic. You could write a short piece of text, then post it as is, make it a simple text-based photo, or do what people on LinkedIn do and photoshop that piece of text on a street sign. I'm not giving you tips when I say that. I'm giving you an important lesson, which is that how you present your content can make a huge difference in how much engagement it gets on social media. Experiment and see what works for your audiences on every platform. Then adjust to give people what they like most. 4. The Power of NetworkingYou always hear that networking is powerful. Here's an example: Upgrade your skills to become more valuable, then do a bunch of networking. You might be surprised to find that one call leads to $100k+ in earnings. Final ThoughtYou never actually "figure it out." That's true in content marketing and in life. I feel like I'm making mistakes almost as often as I did when I was a rookie. You will never beat the game, and that's okay. The joy comes from just playing it. Enjoy your weekend. - Tim |
