I'm more focused on other companies at the moment, but I always find time to share a few things I'm learning while building. Here they are... 1. Your Customers Are An Asset We've been selling premium services to Copyblogger Academy members. Which has been going great, but it's reminding me that in any business, your current and past customers are an asset. An absolutely massive one. You can upsell, ask for referrals, sell to them again with a different product or service, get feedback on your offer, and a lot more. Don't just get sales and forget about them. Keep squeezing more value over time. 2. Sell Something Expensive I'm on year 14 of running companies. The further along I go, the more I think it's not worth it to sell anything cheap. Ever. No cheap services, no cheap eBooks, no cheap courses. High prices for premium offers. Nothing else. The first reason why is that it's extremely hard to build a business with low-ticket customers. You need so many clicks. The second reason why is that expensive customers are easier to work with. Get pricey. It's a win-in. 3. Why People Buy There are dozens of ways I could go with this. But here's one. People buy when they're close to certain that they're going to be happy with their purchase. They don't buy outcomes or benefits. They buy certainty. So what should you do about that? Get a lot of social proof and add it to all your marketing material, have awesome customer service, and be genuine. Focus on trust, not creating emotion or desire. Sales will follow. 4. Lesson From The Build You have to train your mind to take action. People often think that taking action is something you do purely through power of will. But it operates more like a muscle. You can build it up bit by bit over time. Start small. Next time you think "I just do {thing}," do it right away. No delay. If something will take less than five minutes, do the same. The more you do this, the more your action muscle will be built, and the easier it'll get. - Tim P.S.
